Pest of the month

At Griggs & Browne we take great pride in our heritage and the people and events that have strengthened our business over the past century. Our story began in 1910 when a local chemist named Michael Browne started a small pest control business in Providence. In 1934 Dan Griggs purchased the business and helped transform the industry by developing a professional approach to customer service.

Fighting pests was a particularly hazardous job in the early 1900's as equipment, knowledge of chemicals and safe practices were still evolving. The Griggs & Browne team quickly became known for their rapid response that they brought to each job. Soon Griggs & Browne became the preferred service provider of area restaurants, hospitals, businesses, institutions, and of course, residences throughout Southern New England.

The Griggs family has guided their business through the challenges of each decade:
1930's A massive Hurricane slammed into Rhode Island and the entire East coast is affected. In its wake, Griggs & Browne technicians worked around the clock to help residents eliminate infestation caused by lack of electricity.
1940's During World War II, Mrs. Griggs becomes the first woman to address a Griggs & Browne business meeting. She recognized beloved employee Hazel Fuller for her dedication and loyalty to Griggs & Browne while her husband served overseas.
1950's Dan Grigg's son, Glenn is hired. With new technology available, Glenn E. Griggs becomes a pioneer in using chemical barriers to control termites.
1960's "Pest of the Month" contest was a familiar sight on Allens Ave. The winning guess was worth $20.
1970's A creative writing contest netted our now well-known slogan. "Without Griggs & Browne, The Whole Town Would Fall Down" thanks to a poetic housewife from Warwick.
1980's Griggs & Browne opened its home inspection division, and expanded into Connecticut and Massachusetts. Later that decade, David Spicer, a Griggs & Browne technician, discovered a dangerous crack in a bridge on Route I-95 in Providence, RI. Officials renamed the bridge after him as a reward for his good deed.
1990's Glenn's son Dan Griggs joins the family business and opens up the Island's office to service Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Griggs & Browne established its Carpet, Tile, and Upholstery Cleaning division.
2000 In response to the growing threat of Lyme disease, Griggs & Browne launches tick prevention services.
2007 Dan Griggs updates the company's image to expand the company's commitment to technology and environmentally safe practices as Griggs & Browne closes in on its 100th anniversary.

Today, Griggs & Browne is the established regional leader offering home services in Termite and Pest Control, Carpet, Tile, and Upholstery Cleaning, and Home Inspection. We pride ourselves on the quality, professionalism and integrity that remain the guiding principals of our company.
Property Owners Should Take Preventative Steps Against Ticks In The Spring
Two out of every three individuals in Rhode Island and nearby Connecticut and Massachusetts are exposed to a growing and dangerous tick population every year.

Once relegated to rural areas, ticks have now moved into suburban neighborhoods as deer populations increase and as suburban sprawl encroaches on what was once forestland and countryside.
